Private-Public Partnerships for Development Impact

USAID, along with many international donors, has prioritized large-scale partnerships with the private sector. Joost Guijt from CDI, Eduardo Tugendhat from CARANA and Jose Luis Ibarrola from Ecom-Armajaro discussed both the potential they see in these partnerships but also some of the outstanding questions to be explored.  Ecom/Source Trust, and Carana are partners in the Peru Cocoa Alliance PPP which is working to bring 28,000 small farmers into sustainable production of cacao, timber and food crops in northern Peru. The session discussed the elements of a successful Public/Private Partnerships, and in the case of the Peru Cocoa Alliance, what is necessary for it to deliver the development benefits it promises.
