The Sustainable Food Lab is a technical partner along with many other organizations in support of the Midwest Row Crop Collaborative (MRCC) Climate Smart Commodities grant proposal. Focusing on row crops in the midwest of the USA, the Food Lab is glad to be part of a proposal that builds on the foundation of investment MRCC company partners have catalyzed already across the midwest through novel cost share programs with experienced farmer organizations such as Practical Farmers of Iowa (PFI) and Precision Conservation Management . The opportunity leverage this grant opportunity to do more of what is already working, as well as bring into focus livestock integration, edge of field practices, and test new models of extension and financial support to reach historically underserved communities is exciting!
The Food Lab will build off our work with PFI and supply chain partners to scale crop diversification, small grains grown in rotation with corn and soy beans, as well as with the Scale Lab to address barriers to whole landscape MRV and multi-company collaboration across rotations and with regenerative ag leaders such as Niman Ranch who work with small scale diversified producers.
